BYU President Cecil O. Samuelson Keynote Speaker at Scholarship Fundraising Banquet

 The BYU Management Society is proud to present BYU President Cecil O. Samuelson as the Keynote Speaker for their Scholarship Fundraising Banquet being held on Saturday, March 23 at 6:30 PM at the Dixie State University Gardner Ballroom.

About our speaker:
Cecil O. Samuelson began his work as the 12th president of Brigham Young University on May 1, 2003. President Samuelson is a Salt Lake City native who has served at the University of Utah as professor of medicine, dean of the School of Medicine and vice president of health sciences. Prior to his call as a full-time General Authority of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he was senior vice president of Intermountain Health Care. He holds a bachelor of science degree, a master's degree in educational psychology and a medical degree from the University of Utah.

Dr. Samuelson fulfilled his residency and held a fellowship in rheumatic and genetic diseases at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina. He has received numerous scholastic honors and is the author or co-author of 48 original publications, eight books or chapters of books and 13 abstracts. He also has served as a director, officer or member of several national medical and hospital organizations.

Elder Samuelson was called in 1994 to serve the Church of Jesus Christ as a member of the First Quorum of the Seventy. On October 1, 2011, he was granted General Authority Emeritus status. At the time of his assignment to BYU, he was a member of the Presidency of the Seventy. He has served the Church of Jesus Christ also as a regional representative, stake president, stake high councilor, branch president and missionary and as an area president in the Utah North Area and the Europe North Area. He and his wife, Sharon Giauque Samuelson, have five children and 12 grandchildren.

Fire & Ice Gala 2013

I have served on the Dixie College Foundation for the past 6 years. I have had the wonderful opportunity to help promote and publicize the good things the Foundation does in raising money to go toward the needs based scholarships for students attending Dixie State College, now Dixie State University as of 3/16/13 when Gov. Herbert signs the Bill.  I have had the wonderful opportunity to work with amazing community leaders like Larry Gardner, Randy Wilkinson, Dale Larkin, Cameron Morby, Pres. Steve Naudald, George Whitehead, Darcy Stewart, Jeff Rogers, Marcia Wade, Dorothy Orton, Pat Western, Kalynn Larsen, Ron Wade, Ira McArthur, Rod Savage, Brock Belnap, Doug Bringhurst, Lon Henderson, Brad Last, Rick Palmer, Megan White, and Louise Zeenati.

This year for the Gala silent auction to be held March 1 at Sun River , I was able to secure four tickets to a Utah Jazz game vs. Phx on March 27 (good seats - $600+ value), a signed Gordon Haywood jersey and a Utah Jazz signed basketball. I also secured a two night lodging in a cabin at the Zion Ponderosa through good friends Bart & Julie  Millard. These funds will be added to the hundreds if not thousands of auction items gathered up by the committee and auctioned off to raise more scholarship funds for needs based students. St. George, UT, February 4, 2013 — All the students that are honored throughout the year are seniors and are recognized for their scholastic achievements, community involvement, and leadership at their respective school. One student from the eight students honored from each high school throughout the school year as a Student of the Month will have the opportunity to become Student of the Year from their school and receive a college scholarship to the college of their choice from the St. George Exchange Club.
