Refinement Records announces summer concert tour for three 2013 Utah contestants of

“The Voice;” Tour and just added a stop in St. George on June 28; Ryan Innes, Amy Whitcombe and Midas Whale will join forces on stage.

St. George, UT, June 5, 2013 — Three Utah contestants who made it past the battle round of the popular national TV talent show “The Voice,” will head out on a summer concert tour sponsored by Refinement Records, a new artist development company in Draper. The three – Ryan Innes, Amy Whitcomb and the group Midas Whale – will make stops in Safford, Arizona, June 13, Provo, Utah, June 14 and Rexburg, Idaho June 15, then on to St. George, Utah on June 28 at 7:00PM in the Cox Auditorium. Atlantic Records band, Fictionist will also appear.

Adam Reader, president and founder of Refinement Records, said the tour idea was hatched with Sammy Schultz, VP of Artist Management, to bring these talented musicians closer to their fan base and catch the excitement the three created during national broadcasts of “The Voice.” Schultz has worked with all three of theses artists many times over the last few years. Reader said, “Sam is an amazing promoter and has put on a multitude of concerts all over.”

Reader. “To see three contestants from the state compete so well with others across the country on “The Voice” is just another acknowledgement that there’s something very special here. I believe that Utah has the ability to be what Seattle was in the early 90s – a musical haven for great acts that will have a national following.”

The St. George-based agency, Tenney Clemons and Saarelainen (TCS) Advertising & Public Relations announces the hiring of local writer, producer and communications specialist Melynda Thorpe Burt.

Founder of Melynda Creative, Thorpe Burt has been working in St. George serving the public relations and marketing needs of local businesses and organizations since 2009. Prior to moving to St. George, she worked as creative services director at Utah Valley University and served as a communications adjunct faculty and internship coordinator from 2002-2009.

Thorpe Burt serves on the DOCUTAH International Film Festival organizing committee and Heart Walk Foundation Gala Committee. Formerly, she has served on the UVU Rebranding Image Committee, Utah Ballet Board of Directors, and the Springville Museum of Art Board of Directors.

Last September, Thorpe Burt traveled to south Peru to write and film a documentary about the plight of the indigenous Q’ero Tribes of the Andes Mountains. Found on the brink of starvation in 2003, Thorpe Burt’s work chronicles the phenomenal tale of how southern Utah’s Tim and Penelope Eicher of Dammeron Valley have spent a decade working to help the Q’ero build trout farms, greenhouses and schoolhouses and to become self-sustaining in their beloved high mountain homeland.   

Thorpe Burt is recipient of several national communications awards including Paragon Award for Best Feature Article in Nation by the National Council for Marketing and Public Relations at Chicago, Ill., Excellence in Alumni Magazine Publications by NCMPR at Costa Mesa, Calif., and

SHARING SUCCESS PROGRAM EXPANDS TO SOUTHERN UTAH

"Sharing Success,” a charitable contribution program, has expanded its investment within our southern Utah communities.  Dixie Escalante Electric Foundation and CoBank, located in Greenwood Village, Colorado, have donated $10,000 to the Erin Kimball Memorial Foundation to be used for transitional housing for homeless families fleeing family violence.

LaDel Laub, CEO of Dixie Escalante Electric along with Mike Brown, Board Chair and Rebecca Jensen, Trustee, presented the check.  “We are happy to be able to invest in a program that makes a critical difference for some of our most vulnerable neighbors,” stated Mr. Laub.  The Erin Kimball Memorial Foundation provides a bridge from emergency shelters to self-sufficient independence and has provided over 200,000 nights of shelter in apartment settings and empowerment services for 587 women and children..

“The timing was perfect,” stated Sue Kimball, Executive Director of the organization.  “With ongoing federal and state funding cuts we need and appreciate the support of our community.”

April Students of the Month Honored by St. George Exchange Club

All the students that are honored throughout the year are seniors and are recognized for their scholastic achievements, community involvement, and leadership at their respective school. One student from the eight students honored from each high school throughout the school year as a Student of the Month will have the opportunity to become Student of the Year from their school and receive a college scholarship to the college of their choice from the St. George Exchange Club.  The St. George Exchange Club meets Thursday mornings at 7:30AM at George's in Ancestor Square.

A week without Internet

When we moved last week I was certain that we could get our internet hooked up a bit quicker. Because of low speed at the new place offered by our current provider, I searched around to find the best provider, fastest speed and best price and chose Century Link. They are the provider of the main internet anyway so going back to them was comforting.  The only problem they could not get us hooked up until today - May 3, 8 days after we moved in to our new space. It has been hard to cope without printers hooked to the network. We have been able to get by though. Our good neighbors (all the hotels around our building) have been kind enough to let us hone in on their WiFi. Otherwise I would be doing everything by phone. I can't wait to be able to print off all the forms I need and be able to check the accounting email so I can finish some invoices that need to go out. I hope that after today, the only thing I need to worry about is where to hang my artwork on the walls. Nice to have technology. Bad when you don't have it completely.

Dave Rose speaking at the BYU Management Society Luncheon

Dave Rose spoke to the BYU Management Society yesterday during our final luncheon of the year. We moved into their ward in Santa Clara while he was still coaching at Dixie State. In fact we bought their home and they moved into a new place just down around the corner. I did not see much of Dave while we were in the ward as he was serving in a Bishopric out at the college. However, we did strike up a connection and he has been very friendly toward me ever since. I remember when we were looking at their home I noticed a Final Four Poster hanging in their bedroom. I did not know who's home it was at the time and thought that Hakeem Olajuwon had a winter home here.

Dave spoke about 3 keys to winning. Confidence, Commitment and Teamwork and told stories about three of his players - Jimmer Ferdette, Brandon Davies and Logan Magnusson that emphasized these points.

Confidence - Jimmer had plenty of it. He told coach after a team captain meeting when it was told that Brandon Davies was kicked off the team that he would make up for Brandon's 11.2 points per game if Coach took care of everything else. following that meeting they get dumped by New Mexico, but in the next game Jimmer scored 52 points, mare than making up for his and Brandon's points.

Commitment - Brandon was committed to BYU and the program even after he had his problems and Coach Rose was committed to Brandon if he would hang around and get things taken care of. It seemed to work out as Coach is still at BYU, even after some big time offers from other schools and Brandon just signed with a top NBA agent.

Teamwork - Logan was a team player without baggage and he made every team he played on better.
